Fighting your giants
Every one of us, at some point in our lives, have come up against a seemingly unbeatable opponent. Maybe it was a difficult upbringing, a tough family situation, a lost friendship, a near impossible goal, or maybe just geometry homework.
When we get to the point of feeling like we’re at our lowest — what do we do? How do we stand up to the giant we may be facing?
Today, many are fighting the biggest giant they’ve ever faced. Whether its adjusting through the pandemic or deep feelings of hopelessness, maybe feeling surrounded by pain, hurt and despair on all sides.
One way or another, we are all fighting through something.
Some are fighting to save their lives, others are striving to save their family, their finances, their hope, save their dreams… and it feels insurmountable.
But we can overcome it!
We can be giant slayers.
Here are three keys to defeating the giants in your life.
1. Show up for the battle ready to fight.
Sometimes you don’t get to pick the place or the time. . .but you must always be ready for the fight.
2. Don’t worry about what other people may think.
No one else can fight your battles. . .no one else can take your place . . .you and you alone are responsible for what you do or don’t do.
Other people may face a shortage of money, opportunities, courage and/or wisdom but there’s one area where they never experience a shortage. . .that’s in opinions of what you should and/or shouldn’t do.
Why do some of your co-workers talk about you behind your back?
Why do some of your friends and even family members get angry on your initiative and desire for a better quality of life?
Your success becomes a reflection of their lack of success.
Sadly, some people instead of fessing up to their lack of success seek to minimize who you are, what you do or are capable of doing. . .so it will not reflect poorly on them.
It’s important that you understand other people’s motivation. . .for the hurtful things they may say. . .but it’s critically important that you never allow their opinion of you to determine what you do or don’t do.
The attitude and actions of others may not be so much as to what you’re doing as to what they are not doing.
3. Understand the rewards of winning.
Never make any mistake about it. . .the battles that you’re facing is for blessings. . .for the rewards that God has promised you.
Just be patient and stay humble as you make progress on your journey, do good without expecting anything in return. Whatever you are going through will prepare you for the rewards ahead. It always sounds easier said than done, but with the right attitude you will overcome.
The point of today’s message is not some feel good story or that we will never face challenges — but with a paradigm shift we can overcome. What that looks like for you may be different than what that looks like for me. But there’s no question that no matter what you may be going through you can overcome it.

It’s the simple things
Some of the best things in life are the simple things. I recently thought about this while walking my dog. After doing so, I decided to think of things that are truly meaningful and important to me. As I started adding it up it was encouraging me, which sparked the interest for today’s inspiration.
We all get taken in by the great job media and advertisers do to remind us of what we should afford to have. Now, don’t get it twisted there is nothing wrong with enjoying life’s pleasures and wanting to be financially strong. I encourage it, but we must ask ourselves what in my life really matters? What am I missing out of life?
It has been said there is nothing that crushes the spirit quite like poverty. Now I hope you never have to experience poverty, but there is something to be said about getting by on less or keeping yourself in check from time to time with a budget as a reminder of how to be creative and enjoy life’s wonders and free pleasures. I heard someone say, you can have all the money in the world yet hold little joy. There are so many things in life that are free, overlooked or simply taken for granted.
Life’s most satisfying experiences do not have a price tag and more often than not will give you the most important memories things in your life.
I challenge you to make your list and implement them into your daily calendar.
You can check on-line, or in your local paper, libraries and chamber of commerce for free events in the park, lectures, tastings (wine and food) browsing through an art gallery can also be a wonderful way to enjoy an hour or two at no cost.
To help you get started, I have listed 10 ideas starting with the love for, and from, loved ones.
Love - the love you give to your loved ones.
Your Faith – Your faith is just that yours. There are many places around the world that do not allow a choice in this matter, but here in the United States we have the freedom to believe, whatever it may be and it is yours to follow.
Your Life -Only you can look yourself in the mirror every night at the end of every day and tell yourself that you are grateful to be alive.
Your Thoughts - as we think we become.
Reading - Go to a library and check out a book or magazine, or a few lines from a good book you are interested in learning from.
Having a Good Laugh – Forget about the laugh lines and laugh every day, because no matter what’s going on in the world or your life, you can find a little humor in just about everything.
Reflecting on good memories - Cherish your beautiful memories, they are yours to keep. Sometimes it is hard to pull them from the busy in your head, so take the time to pull out one photo, the box or entire keepsakes, to remind you of just how good life is.
Being creative - being creative is not only a freedom of thought and expression, but your thoughts are your own which make them free.
A walk among nature - Where there are trees and flowers there is life. Most often than not, walking through the woods, or a field of wildflowers, can not only uplift you, it is a great place to find appreciation and a great place to refocus. That is unless you have allergies, then you can stare at the clouds from inside your house.
Unconditional love from your pet - If you are a pet owner, you know what I am talking about. No matter how crabby you are, how you look, how much money you have or how long you have been gone, you are greeted with happiness, love, and kisses for no charge.
Be thankful every day for all that you have and all you have.
